Grr Arghh!!!

So here's my newest little friend! Actually he's not finished yet but that may be a while away as I'm not sure what the teeth are going to be made of. Its going to stay unlined as the wool is rough and sturdy enough to not need it.

I love the way the eyes are missmatched and the pupil button tend to move around so he can see everywhere. I'm going to make a few more of these but give them induividual names because they will all be so different. This one shall be called Gurt.

Oh How Things Get Busy

Here's a new hat I've been knitting. It's going to be grafted straight across the top like my other ears hats (I made one for myself in the orange wool). This is the first in the pink wool. It's the same type as the orange. I'm not a huge fan of the colour but some people I know like it so I thought I'd give it a try. It's going to have a small decoration on the front of an embroidered cat nose and mouth. I think that would be sweet and subtle.

I've been really busy since going back to college, not just with projects, my martial arts class has gone to two lessons a week. I don't have to go to both but I do really enjoy it and it's a good excuse to have a really long bath afterwards and not think about college.

My latest project at college has taken a turn towards what I want to be doing more in my negotiated project after Christmas. Previously it's been irritating editorial projects which I tend to over complicate myself with. Now I'm doing a project where I have to design a character and the world it lives in. Then we have to design it to go on products such as posters, t-shirts, mugs etc. Its a bit more basic than I want to do which is more about designing products but it's a start towards a more substantial project I will set myself.

In the pipeline for the Etsy shop I'm planning making monster purses out of the rough blue yarn I showed sometime previously. Its will have evil pink button eyes and evil plush teeth. I'm really looking forward to getting these critters finished as they really amuse me to look at. I'm also going to be making some sheepy key chains as featured in my second ever post. Well, it will be just the head of sheepy. I've been putting this project off because it's really fiddly.

I shall return soon with photo project goodness.

Coffee

I very rarely drink coffee these days (I used to live off the stuff and then all of a sudden became completely intolerant to it) I only drink it to perk up my mood. However I have always noticed how I always have my best ideas while my mind is racing (I used to make a habit of drinking strong coffee then going to bed - the best ideas come while your staring at the ceiling for hours on end) . I had a coffee today and I've had many great ideas. I've decided what I want to do for my negotiated project after Christmas and I know how I want my final degree show to look in May.

I've been toying with the idea of doing the preliminary work for a children's book as its been one of the things I've always wanted to do. I've always had a thing about designing items and I wanted to explore that as well. So I'd make up my characters and then design greetings cards, toys, fabric patterns, etc etc all based around these characters. However that would be an awful lot of work, too much in fact. So I've made the decision that I'm just going to do merchandising. That gives me free reign to design and make whatever comes into my head without having to relate it to the theme of the book.

... And for the degree show? A farm yard/ Zoo of insane beasts and huggable lovely things.

So Bright

Oh I look a little grumpy in this photo. Hopefully it wont scare people off as this scarf in going onto Etsy (or rather is already on Etsy here ) I did have the sun in my eyes as my defence and wearing a wool scarf for photos in the sun aren't so much fun.

I'm feeling quite perky about getting this scarf business done because I've ordered more of the same yarn which should be here maybe tomorrow, It seems nice to have a definite end and then have more of the lovely stuff to work with. I think I'm going to make a cowl as I've had a cute idea about that.

Oh if ever anyone asks you to go to an African drum night then GO! I went to one last night at a pub frequented by my art student friends and it was great. We all sat around while a lady passed out about 20 drums and other percussion instruments and everyone just joined in and played solidly from the 8.30 start time till closing time. It was very therapeutic.
